Latest information indicates that the rescue operation of a sailing boat in the sea area northeast of Diakofto, Kythira by the Coast Guard. According to AdelinFM The ten crew members, all of Polish origin, are safe and in good health.
The Navy contributed significantly to the operation, as a Super Puma helicopter transported the rescued individuals to the airport of Kythira. As a precautionary measure, the National Ambulance Service (EKAV) was also notified.
The operation was coordinated with immediate mobilization by the Coast Guard, with a patrol boat, three accompanying vessels, and a helicopter operating under adverse conditions due to strong winds in the area. From the outset, the Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Kythira, Mr. Giannis Katsanevakis, was informed of the possible assistance of the Municipality's Civil Protection in any need.
This operation highlights the important role of rescue forces in the region and their immediate response to dangerous situations at sea. As has been mentioned in the past by institutional bodies, the Coast Guard needs more support in the difficult area of the Kythira sea.
