More than 1.500 cases of of a new coronavirus are expected to be announced on Tuesday, 06/07, in the country. According to the update of the President of EODY, Panagiotis Arkoumaneus, the number of daily cases has been increasing in recent days, but this does not translate into increased hospital admissions.
Mr Arkoumaneas said that the age average of cases has dropped to 27 years while infections in young people under 30 come from the nightlife sector at a rate of more than 50%.
Very difficult to achieve immunity on 70% by the end of August
At the same time, members of the Commission express their concern regarding vaccination, which, with the existing data (mutations, increased transmissibility), is impossible to 85% in the next 60 days.
According to CNN Greece's reliable information, the same sources say that even the 70% of vaccination is difficult to achieve by the end of August.
The upward increase in cases began last Tuesday , which rose above 600, in two days they crossed the threshold of 700, culminating on Saturday when they «climbed» to a little more than 1.000, while in the last 24 hours they have exceeded 800, adding to the concern.
Mr. Arkoumaneas clarified that for the time being the dominant mutation in our country remains the British, however it is estimated that in August the Delta mutation will dominate the whole planet.
Η Delta mutation is the one that is now triggering the explosion of cases, and which is 100% more contagious, even than the original strain in Wuhan, China, according to scientists. In fact, the Delta mutation, is the one that will prevail in August around the world, according to epidemiologists.
It is recalled that the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, expressed yesterday his great concern about the increase in cases, during a wide-ranging meeting with the participation of Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Athens Sotiris Tsiodra and of its top executives.
Indeed, Mr Mitsotakis said that the increase in active cases is in the order of 75%, which means that we are just over 6,000 active cases today. Most of these are mainly related to recreational and mobility activities, he added.
