The Ministry of Health experts have been alarmed in recent days, as there has been a rapid increase in cases of the new coronavirus in children up to 17 years old. It is indicative that in one week there have been recorded officially 709 cases in children which is about the ¼ since the beginning of the pandemic.
New instructions and quarantine
The next meeting of the Health Ministry committee is expected to discuss the new framework of instructions to be given to schools in case of outbreaks in pupils.
Experts are concerned about whether to close the specific section where the outbreak occurred or the whole school. Emphasis is expected to be placed on the duration of the quarantine to which any new carrier will be subjected, even if asymptomatic, given that this category of infected persons also transmit the virus with the same frequency.
Shocking numbers
During the seven-day period from 27 October to 2 November, the following were officially detected and recorded by the EODY 709 cases in children. This is an extremely high number considering that since the first day of the pandemic (24 February) a total of 3,088 cases, while 709 were within the last week.
It should be noted that a total of 42,080 cases in all ages have been recorded in our country since the beginning of the epidemic, while children account for 7,8%.
Concerns also about crèches
But experts are also in a big dilemma about whether the nurseries in the red areas should be closed. This lies in the fact that, although children at these ages are extremely sensitive, their possible confinement could create problems for the family itself, especially in cases where both parents work.
