The number of new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19-19, recorded in the last 24 hours by the Hellenic Public Health Organization (EODY), total 3,273, of which 12 were identified following screenings at the country’s entry points. The total number of cases stands at 550,459 (daily change +0.6%), of which 51.1% are men. Based on confirmed cases over the past 7 days, 128 are considered travel-related, and 1,409 are linked to a previously known case.
The number of patients currently hospitalized and on ventilators is 286 (61.2% men). Their median age is 65 years. 83.9% have an underlying medical condition and/or are 70 years of age or older. Since the start of the pandemic, 2,896 patients have been discharged from ICUs. Admissions of new COVID-19 patients to hospitals nationwide total 276 (daily change: -4.83%). The seven-day average of admissions is 251 patients. The median age of confirmed cases is 40 years (range 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of deaths is 78 years (range 0.2 to 106 years).
There have been 20 new deaths among COVID-19 patients, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 13,298. 95.21% of the deceased had an underlying medical condition and/or were 70 years of age or older.
Samples Tested: From January 1, 2020, to the present, in laboratories that conduct tests for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and that systematically report the total number of samples they test have tested a total of 6,047,250 clinical samples, while 8,404,513 samples have been tested by health units and EODY teams conducting Rapid Ag tests. The seven-day average is 87,747 tests.
Self-tests: As of August 18, 2021, 31,932,277 self-test results have been recorded electronically, while 1,040,959 people came in for a retest.
EODY Mass Testing: On August 18, 2021, 142 testing operations were carried out by the Mobile Health Teams (KOMY) of EODY, during which 33,515 Rapid Ag tests were administered and 710 positive cases were identified (2.12%).
