Refund of half of the Special Consumption Tax on agricultural diesel for 2024 and the possibility of advancing part of the amount to be refunded to farmers, is provided for in a provision included in the draft law on the utilization of public property in coastal areas, which was submitted to Parliament.
The Mitsotakis government is attempting to reassure farmers who are preparing to descend on Athens next Tuesday, dissatisfied with what the prime minister promised them at their meeting at Maximos last week, which did not meet their demands.
There were only two new announcements, concerning energy costs and the acceleration of part of the refund of the Special Consumption Tax on agricultural diesel.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the acceleration of half of the excise tax refund at the end of March. Specifically, he announced the advance payment of €40 million at the end of March, while stating that the government is willing to open a dialogue «for a fairer way of refunding the excise duty» with permanent measures, but from 2025 onwards.
Whenever the government is faced with a pressing and fair social demand, it resorts to communication tricks and «half» benefits. Now, it believes it is doing farmers a favor with the price of 9-11 cents per kilowatt hour and the faster return of half of the excise tax on agricultural diesel.
