The shift in international tourism towards authentic destinations without mass tourism is highlighted in a recent survey by the international website Travel and Tour World.
According to the popular tourism website, which attracts 20 million travelers and professionals worldwide, «the oversaturation of major destinations is now a reality that is driving rapid change in the tourism industry, resulting in an increasing number of travelers seeking tranquility and authenticity in other areas each year.».
In the rest of the article, travelandtourworld.com suggests the 11 «secret» places in Europe that show the greatest potential. In 10th place on the list is Karpathos, described as the «peaceful side of the Greek islands,» which charms visitors with its emerald waters, impressive nature trails, wild mountain landscapes, and picturesque traditional villages.
The list is completed by less prominent destinations from France, Georgia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Wales, and the Balkans.
Responding to the call of the Municipality of Karpathos to promote adventure tourism, the international website had previously ranked Karpathos at the top of Greek islands that are ideal for outdoor activities.
In line with new trends, the Municipality of Karpathos is organizing the Karpathos Climb Adventure Fest 2025 for the first time, which will take place on October 6 and 7, 2025. This is a celebration of alternative forms of tourism, combining outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, running, cycling, and diving with cultural and gastronomic experiences, highlighting the uniqueness of the island's natural and cultural wealth.
The event has already attracted international interest, with representatives from abroad attending to share their experiences with the international media and relevant markets. The festival will include group climbing, hiking, a presentation of the local flora and fauna, introductory diving lessons, climbing and safety seminars, a demonstration of how to make the local pasta «makaroni,» a cycling tour, a ceramics workshop, a traditional dinner, and musical events.
