Bad weather Hope: Access to hospitals with difficulties

Patients should contact hospitals first before approaching them in case they need urgent treatment, as there are cases where clinics are understaffed due to the absence of staff.

The bad weather, Elpis, may have bent to a certain extent, but the problems, however, in the hospitals continue. Besides, the snow remains outside the entrances of the nursing institutions, making it difficult for those attempting to reach it by their own means of transport.

Bad weather Hope: Access to hospitals with difficulties

At the same time, the bad weather created problems in moving staff to the health units, which is why there are currently gaps in the coverage of key positions.

Although there was a decision by the leadership of the Ministry of Health to move the NHS workers with vehicles of the hospitals and the Civil Protection, this was not possible in most cases.

Note that at a meeting of the Ministry of Health with the Governors of Health Regions (YPE) and in consultation with the Governors of Hospitals, work schedules in hospitals have been changed to allocate staff and to operate the clinics at least with basic workers.

Besides, since yesterday, workers have had difficulties to move to and from work, as it happened with thousands of other citizens who were stranded on the streets of Attica.

It is characteristic that the Union of Employees at Attiko notes that nursing and other staff are unable to be transported from their place of residence to the hospital due to the heavy snowfall, the under-utilization of public transport and the blockage of thousands of cars on main arteries.

But, «despite repeated calls from the union and other colleagues to the management and the Nursing Department management to take action, to release the workers, to adjust the schedule differently and to press the DHS, the civil defence and the government for their safe transportation, they are indifferent.».

The ambulances of the EKAV on the other hand, they still have difficulty accessing hospitals mainly because the roads are covered with snow and access is difficult.

However, patients should contact hospitals first before approaching them in case they need urgent treatment, as there are cases where clinics are understaffed due to the absence of staff.

Today, the NHS is still trying to cater mainly for emergencies, while many scheduled appointments are postponed until later. That is why patients should be contacted in advance by hospitals.

Today, however, in Attica they are on duty:

08.00 to 14.30

  • Konstantopoulio
  • General Oncology Hospital of Kifissia
  • 417 NIMTS

14.30 to 22.00

  • KAT

14.30 to 08.00 (next day)

  • Alexandra
  • Popular
  • ELPIS

08.00 to 08.00 (next)

  • General Hospital of Nice

It is noteworthy that in all hospitals on duty there are snow removal machines, while especially in the KAT and Sismanoglio, which are located in the northern suburbs and there was concern about a blockade, from early morning the gates are open.
