The temperature rose by 4-5°C on M. Friday 30/04/2021 in most of the country compared to M. Thursday 29/04 according to the recordings of the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr.
A small further rise in temperature is forecast for M. Saturday 01/05 and Easter Sunday 02/05 and it is very likely that new temperature records will be set.
The weather conditions until Easter Sunday - Over 35 degrees Celsius maximum temperature in the country
Generally good weather conditions with clouds alternating with sunny intervals will prevail in the country until Easter Sunday (02/05), according to the latest forecasts of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr. Winds in the sea will not exceed 4 to 5 Beaufort, while dust concentrations in the atmosphere will be increased.
However, as we have highlighted in previous communications, temperatures will move to unseasonably high levels due to the warm air masses covering the Eastern Mediterranean. The map below shows the deviation of the temperature from the 1979-2010 average at about 1500 meters above the ground. As can be seen, the temperature of the air masses over our country on Easter Sunday is expected to be up to 16 degrees Celsius above its average value.
The final temperature configuration near the ground is influenced by many parameters including cloud cover, the occurrence of phenomena and local winds. According to the numerical forecast model of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, which takes into account the above parameters, the temperature both on Holy Saturday (01/05) and Easter Sunday (02/05) is expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius in some places, while in most of Central and Southern Greece it will reach 30 degrees Celsius. The map shows the variation of the maximum temperature in the 5 largest urban centres until Easter Sunday (02/05).
