Sultry is the atmosphere in Attica, from the great fire raging uncontrolled since Tuesday night, July 19, and there are many citizens of the Basin who are facing respiratory problems.
As explained in the show "Ora Hellas" the president of the lung association, Mata Chikrica, «since this morning we have received many calls from citizens who are either operating on the fire or near the front lines who are experiencing severe respiratory problems.».
She then shared with Open viewers some tips to deal with any discomfort they may feel. «The first and foremost is to avoid unnecessary travel», he said, adding that people who are used to playing sports should «under no circumstances go out during the day to play sports».
If, however, if one needs to move, one should do so «by car, whose windows should be closed, have air conditioning and internal air consumption». Ms. Chikrica asked citizens to «try to avoid any contact with the external environment», while those who are very close to the burning areas «are advised to be in a cool, air-conditioned area with their windows and doors closed».
What to do for those belonging to vulnerable and susceptible groups
Finally, Mrs Chikrika pointed out that «It is very important those belonging to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups (young children, the elderly, pregnant and breastfeeding women) should be kept away from these areas. If they experience symptoms of coughing, difficulty breathing, or even dizziness, it is advisable to contact their doctor immediately. The patients with chronic obstructive respiratory problems, such as COPD, or bronchial asthma, should be in constant contact with their pulmonologist because they may need to modify their medication.».
