Ο prosecutor of the first instance, Nikos Antonarakos, after carrying out preliminary examination, ended up in prosecution of Mr Mattheopoulos for two misdemeanours.
It is recalled that the expert Dimitris Liotsos, who was appointed by the Athens Prosecutor's Office in the context of the preliminary investigation for the search for criminal responsibility for the deadly fire in Mati, with his complaint but also with a series of statements he gave before the investigating magistrate who handled the the case of the deadly fire at Mati, made a complaint that was under pressure to cover up those responsible for the handling of the fatal afternoon fire.
On March 3, 2019, Mr Liotsios had complained in a complaint filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office that he had been the target of sabotage when unknown persons had removed the drive chain from his motorcycle, which had endangered his life.
As he describes in the complaint, «during the performance of the acts necessary for the preparation of the expert opinion and specifically on 20.09.2018, I received a phone call from the then Chief of the Fire Brigade and current plaintiff, who asked me the next day to visit him in his office at the NSCE, in order to discuss a serious issue. In particular, in the context of his constant interference and interference in my work, from the very first moment of my appointment, he threatened me, causing me fear.».
In fact, the expert had quoted extracts of their conversation, testifying that Mr.Mattheopoulos told him the following:
« (...) I was called to the highest level and they tell me that Mr. Liotsios will help .... that he will help here and he is speaking out and making judgments of superiors, what right does he have to speak out to that, he is speaking out. Mr. Liotsios should make a conclusion about the fire and not through the conclusion to show who is to blame, if it is the fault of Mattheopoulos, Terzoudis the other one the other one the other one, call him and tell him, so I called you and I told you to wake up. Because I'm telling you, you've got 15 to 20 years to retire. (...) The paper will come from above, without me wanting it, so they will say in Samos, who is yes and in the first fire don't lift anything and then Gurbatsis will come and find you.
