In fact, the data (I drew data from Leaf's 2022 study) reveals that deforestation of only the rainforests, the ones that, with similar no-fire policies of Mitsotakis, literally wiped out the Amazon from its counterpart Bolonsaro in Brazil, is responsible for 10% of global CO2 emissions
Moreover, these emission levels exceed the levels of all individual countries except the US and China. However, climate finance for deforestation accounts for only $14 billion of the more than $618 billion available , representing a tiny $2.2% of the total.
This is particularly problematic when considering a forest's carbon stock and carbon sequestration potential. The Table shows how different forests around the world compare when looking at gigatonnes of carbon stock
A carbon store or carbon reservoir refers to a system that can store carbon and remove it from the atmosphere. Forests are used to offset many carbon emissions and, according to some estimates, would cost $25 billion for additional carbon offsets to offset and offset unabated emissions.

In total, about 30% of global emissions are absorbed by forests each year. However, 3.75 million hectares of primary tropical rainforest were lost in 2021, equivalent to 600 football pitches per hour.
