Η Heptanese Confederation following the announcement of an impending (hopefully not final) decision cessation of operations of single Bank operating on the island of Paxos, Piraeus Bank, issued the following resolution:
Representing as a tertiary institution primary and secondary cultural institutions based in Attica from all the Ionian Islands, We strongly oppose the closure of the only bank operating on the island.. It is the branch of Piraeus Bank, which our compatriots trusted, given that succeeded the Agricultural Bank the leading bank in our country's provinces, supporting farmers, agritourism, and their products, and constituting social good for residents. The Closing the branch will create a huge problem on the island., Since they will have to incur increased expenses to travel to Corfu to meet their banking obligations, with all the difficulties that entails, especially in winter. Even if the ATM remains in Paxos, there will still be serious problems, as it will need to be refilled at least two or three times a week and often malfunctions.

We call on the management of Piraeus Bank not to close the branch in Paxos, to reconsider the issue, and to revise its position in light of the social problem that this will create., especially in winter when most of the island's residents are elderly and need to be able to access their bank services in person.
This resolution will be communicated to Piraeus Bank, the Members of Parliament for the Ionian Islands, and every relevant body.
FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
THE PRESIDENT THE GENERAL SECRETARY
ANNA ALEXANDRATOU DELAPORTA STELLA SARAKINI MENTZELOPOULOU
