On the occasion of the 101st birthday of Manolis Daponte, an emblematic figure of Kythera and the island's modern history, the Pasiphae organizes on Monday 21 July at 20:00, at the art and culture space Philosophy Culture Center in Chora Square, a special retrospective exhibition entitled «A Century Kythera».
The exhibition attempts to shed light on the life and multifaceted work of Emmanuel Daponte, through a moving selection of photographs and documents from his personal archive. Daponte is portrayed not only as a person but as a living memory of contemporary Kytherian history.
The event invites locals and visitors to meet or meet again the man who «is now a legend», as the invitation says. The exhibition is expected to be an opportunity for collective emotion and honour, illuminating through its images not only the journey of the person honoured, but also the journey of a place.
The presentation will be hosted at the new cultural hotspot of Kythera, the Philosophy Culture Center (next to Café Vengera), which aspires to serve as a focus of artistic and intellectual creation on the island.
Entrance is free for the public.
