According to the Compare the Market AU survey, olive oil tourism is «ideal for foodies, agritourists and all those who love to immerse themselves in the culture of a country when travelling». Thus, the Mediterranean has long been one of the hotspots of olive oil tourism.

One of the star products of Spanish cuisine is olive oil, for which interest has grown in recent years and has become one of Spain's most experiential attractions. Olive tourism represents a way of life that combines culture, nature and gastronomy.

Italy comes second among the top countries in olive oil tourism, according to the data. While Spain holds the top spot for olive oil production, Italy boasts a strong second place with a total score of 2,902. Italy has a remarkable variety of olive types, with each region producing oil with unique flavours influenced by local conditions. This diversity allows for exploration and appreciation of the subtle nuances of olive oil.
Greece ranks third on the list of the most positive online posts about its olive oil and the second most olive oil tasting experiences. Greece boasts an even longer history of olive cultivation than Italy, which dates back as far as 3500 BC.
Turkey and Albania complete the top five. Turkey has the second largest number of olive oil varieties appearing in the world ranking and the fourth largest olive oil production. With over 9 million hectares of olive groves, Albania comes in fifth place as a holiday destination for those who want to learn more about olive oil production.
Despite being a «newer player», Australian olive oil is gaining recognition for its quality and innovation. Australia ranks 10th, with the fourth most olive oil tastings and olive groves spanning 1,000,000 hectares.
