The Mayor of Monemvasia, Hercules Trichilis, showed responsibility that should distinguish a local ruler, with his immediate reaction to the prolonged and extensive power outages that affected his municipality on 12 November 2024. In a letter to the Prosecutor of Sparta, the Mayor expresses his indignation at the inaction of the DEDDIE and highlights the serious problems that arose for residents, especially for people with respiratory problems, as well as for professionals who suffered significant damage to their products.
The Mayor cites specific examples of power outages in various communities of Monemvasia, stressing the inability to communicate with the relevant offices of the DEDDIE, which had no staff to take over the shift and address the problems. Through his letter he asks to investigate the causes of repeated power outages and attribute responsibility to those responsible, in order to avoid similar situations in the future.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Trichilis not only acknowledged the indignation of citizens but also took action, promoting a meaningful response to the problem through justice. Such actions are worthy of reward and show how responsible local government officials must respond to society's problems with immediacy and determination, rather than fanfare and unnecessary appearances.
