A statement was made by the Mayor of Kythera E. Harhalakis after the news of the death of Theo Katsaneva:
«The loss of former MP Theodoros Katsanevas shocks us all and especially the society and the residents of Antikythera, his homeland on the side of his father, Kostas. Theodoros Katsanevas was a true supporter of the small island, when in the mid-1980s he promoted and achieved both the construction of the harbour and the fishing shelter and the electrification of the small island, against all odds and multiple problems and the denial of the central power structures of the State.
His works in Antikythera were the reason for young Antikytherians from Athens and Australia to return to the island and work in the PPC and other services, creating families that still keep the island standing. In early 2000 the then President of the Antikythera Community Andreas Harhalakis made him an honorary citizen of the island.
He always referred with emotion and honour to his Antikytherian father and his Asia Minor mother, from whom he took principles and values, but above all the kindness and gentleness that distinguished him.
I am personally grateful to him, because despite our ideological differences, the blood ties that connected him to my father were a catalyst for my own relationship with him, not only on Antikythera issues but also on an academic level, as he helped me a lot in my early student days as Professor of Labor Economics at the University of Piraeus.
I will always remember the nice nights in Kefalari when he would pick up the guitar and take us on unique musical journeys...
May his memory be eternal. My sincere and deepest condolences to his entire family.
