Complaint about the installation of a mobile phone antenna in Diakofto

The installation of an antenna on the roof of a building in the center of the village of Diakofto is causing serious concern. The news became known today on social media after a resident of the neighboring house reported the issue.

We contacted the resident, who informed us about what happened from the day a special team of three technicians arrived until the antenna was installed. As she told us, the work began on Sunday, February 21, and during that time, the technicians  had a conversation with her husband, claiming that they were installing a television antenna. Watching the work with concern and distrust, the two residents contacted the police authorities, who were present in the area to verify the legality of the installation. The police authority informed the two residents that they had been shown the relevant permit. Finally, the installation was completed in the following days.

The resident reported quarrel with the owner of the adjacent building on whose roof the antenna was installed, right on the edge of the dividing wall, as well as with the installation crew. In fact, he also mentioned for intimidation by a technician.

The resident also mentioned specific mobile phone company who contacted her yesterday, Wednesday, February 24, to seek a compromise. Specifically, they suggested that she slightly shifted to another spot on the terrace, the antenna! As the resident told us, she responded to the company representative by asking «to completely remove the antenna from the village». In closing, the resident stated that the police authorities have been informed of all the facts and that the villagers have been supporting her from the outset.

We then contacted Deputy Mayor Mr. Charalambos Sougiannis who had been informed about the matter and, as he told us, examines the complaints and the if there is a relevant permit from the building authority and other authorities that legalize the installation of the antenna in that specific location.

Finally, we contacted President of the Diakofto Association, Mrs. Martha Stathaki. Ms. Stathaki informed us that spoke with the specific company to receive the answer that there is license from the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT). Ms. Stathaki pointed out to the company that a license alone is not enough of EETT, but other permits are also required, such as. opinion of the Architecture Council in this specific case, since these are listed buildings.

Pending developments, we will provide updates on the issue and its final outcome in the coming days.
