The death of Alexandros Nicolaides shocked not only Greek sport but also the world family of taekwondo. The silver medalist of the 2004 and Beijing Olympics in 2008, left his last breath on 14/10/2022 defeated by cancer and upon hearing the tragic news, there were not a few who confronted him and expressed their condolences to his family.
One of them, however, the Korean Moon Dae Sung, with whom Nicolaides had faced in the final of the Olympic tournament of the Athens Games, honoured the memory of the Greek Olympic champion in a very special way by visiting his grave himself.
The Korean taekwondo champion visited the grave of Alexandros Nicolaides in order to honour his memory and in his statements made on public television he said:
«Alexander and I had a strong relationship for a long time. He loved Korea, as I love Greece. Greece is like my second home. I am very sorry that I came late. We were close, we had a very strong relationship.»
