On Sunday, May 14, the Kythirian Brotherhood of Piraeus-Athens honored the patron saint of Kythira, Saint Theodore, at the Holy Temple of Panagia Myrtidiotissa in Neo Faliro, where a divine liturgy with the breaking of bread was performed.
Many members of the association, Kythirians, and representatives of Kythirian associations attended the church service early on, including the President of the Kythirian Foundation for Culture and Development, Mr. George Kasimatis, the President of the Union of Antikythians Abroad, Agios Myron, Mr. George Konstantinou, and Mr. Yannis Mavrommatis from the Kythira Association of Athens.
Afterwards, traditional bread, coffee, and many sweets were served in the association's event hall, where we all enjoyed a lovely Sunday morning that took us back to Kythira once again.
The celebration of Saint Theodore by the Kythirian Brotherhood in the parish of Piraeus has been established and takes place every year on the first Sunday after May 12, a custom that began at least 70 years ago and continues unchanged over the years. Like all Kythirian associations of Kythirians everywhere, both inside and outside Greece, from ancient times to the present day, we celebrate our second religious symbol of Kythira after Panagia Myrtidiotissa, Saint Theodore of Kythira.
