They were unanimously found guilty, as charged, by the Mixed Jury Court of Appeals the two men responsible for the murder and rape of the college student, Eleni Topaloudi, in Rhodes.
In its verdict, the court did not deviate from the first-instance ruling that found the 24-year-old defendant from Rhodes and his 22-year-old co-defendant, of Albanian descent, guilty of the homicide and rape the student's.
In tears, he heard the verdict regarding the horrific crime committed against his daughter, the Yiannis Topaloudis, while the mother of the 21-year-old student was not in the classroom when the chairperson took the podium. .
The proceedings continue, with the defense attorneys asking the court to grant the defendants mitigating circumstances, hoping to “reduce” the life sentence and the 15-year prison term that were imposed on their clients in the first instance.
Among those showing their support for the family of Eleni Topaloudi are, among others, members of the SYRIZA and of DAY25.
