There is obvious concern within the scientific community about the simultaneous unblocking of almost all social and economic activities in the context of the country's return to normality after the coronavirus pandemic. Health ministry experts fear a new deterioration in health indicators, which could prove fatal for the fragile state of the Greek economy.
No one can blame the citizens for the momentum with which they are attempting to recover their lives, and it is a given that good weather is also a factor in containing the coronavirus. However, the risks are real and visible.
The three risks
As long as citizens continue to walk around and relax, experts are further concerned, as there is also the phenomenon often seen of not wearing a mask or of failure to observe the distances.
To recall that the use of the mask is still mandatory and the fine is 150 euros, while the curfew continues to apply after 12:30 at night and the fine is €300.
According to information from ethnos.gr, Three are the main concerns of the Committee's experts in their private discussions:
- Do not disperse after the removal of the lockdown and hurt the tourism. Besides, the balance remains fragile with countries such as England questioning the «green» colour on the map of Greece and the speed of the vaccinations.
- Another fear of experts is related to the possibility that there could be local lockdown and especially in islands or other tourist areas in the middle of summer. In this case, the experts are determined to give the green light for local measures, but are also concerned about the economic consequences, even though their concern is the health security of the country.
- The third and biggest risk for the experts is that there will be a large dispersion due to the relaxation and they will be forced to new general lockdown, although this scenario is not likely in the summer months. But in such a case it is unknown what will happen from September, even though the vaccinations are progressing rapidly and herd immunity is close even towards the end of the summer. The fear is mainly related to new mutations that may make their appearance.
