The President of KEDE, Dimitris Papastergiou, sent a letter to the Municipalities of the whole country for the collection of essentials for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
The KEDE participates in the national effort to provide humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria, affected by the deadly earthquake, with the immediate collection of essentials from each municipality.
The President of KEDE Dimitris Papastergiou sent the following letter to the municipalities of the country.
«Dear Colleagues,
As we all know, the citizens of our neighbouring Turkey and Syria are suffering from the sad consequences of the devastating earthquakes that have been hitting their regions since early this morning.
In the face of this human tragedy of unprecedented magnitude, where hundreds of our fellow human beings have lost their lives and tens of thousands more have been literally found on the streets, it is the duty of all of us to assist in every possible way and in a timely manner, providing essential assistance to those who need it.
In this context, the KEDE and the Municipalities all over the country must participate in the national effort and the immediate mobilization of our country to provide humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria. This participation can be translated into action by the immediate collection of essentials such as blankets, quilts, tents and medical supplies from each municipality, which will be sent within the next three days to the headquarters of each Regional Union of Municipalities, so that then at the expense of the KEDE the material to be collected and sent to the two countries, always in consultation with the national authorities of our country.
I believe that you will all respond with consistency and immediacy to this call for humanity and solidarity, proving once again that local government is a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the region.»
