The «Assembly of solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Yannis Michaelides» occupied the ADEDY building in Syntagma on Wednesday morning, as it announced in a statement.
It says the occupation will continue until the publication of the council's decision, and warns the judicial authorities that its delay amounts to state murder of Yannis Michaelides.
The statement also reiterates the critical health condition of the hunger striker, who suffers constant palliations due to his ailing body, while it is estimated that until Thursday he will not be able to say any water (see the statement below).
Parliamentary parties and organizations of the extra-parliamentary left condemn the refusal of the judicial council, while in the afternoon (7 p.m.) a protest and solidarity meeting with the hunger striker is planned at Syntagma.
It is recalled that the Lamia Court of Appeal rejected the request of Yannis Michaelides, who claims his right to be released on parole, while his life literally hangs in the balance.
As expected, the Council accepted the prosecutor's proposal for the appeal of the hunger striker against the previous decision not to grant him the right to be dismissed.
DB, a companion of hunger striker Yannis Michaelides, stresses that his condition has reached an extremely dangerous point, calling on everyone to see the latest tests of G. Michaelides' latest medical examinations, and calling on everyone to see the opinion of his personal doctor Pantelia Vergopoulou.
Yesterday the lawyer of Yannis Michaelides, Theodoros Mantas, stressed that in the case of his client «the limits of endurance of human life are not tested. First and foremost, the limits of endurance of the rule of law are being tested». Speaking to the radio station «Sto Kokkino 105,5» pointed out that the hunger striker «never touched human life, never did anything to endanger human life».
What the doctors say about his state of health
The personal doctor of Yannis Michaelides, Pantelia Vergopoulou, director of the ambulance service - ESY, intensivist, anaesthesiologist, said:
«The condition of Yannis Michaelides in the last 24 hours and according to the recent medical examinations, has deteriorated rapidly. His hypoglycaemia is now very severe with blood sugar values around 50. At any moment he may fall into a hypoglycaemic coma, which of course (since he is isolated outside the clinic in the special detention area) may not be noticed in time and may not be able to be brought up in time.
Although he has a strong feeling of thirst, he cannot drink a sufficient amount of water, as even two sips of water from the gastroesophageal reflux cause a reduction.
This results in severe dehydration, severe stress on the kidneys and severe pains in urination. The risk of kidney failure is high and is exacerbated by metabolic disorders and severe ketoacidosis.
As a doctor, I address the most sincere appeal to the competent Judicial Council of the Court of Appeal of Lamia, for an immediate and positive outcome of the case of Mr. Michaelides».
Any other shortcoming and negative decision will lead a young person to a certain, agonizing and quick death.
The announcement of the Assembly of solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Yannis Michaelides
«A few hours ago we occupied the ADEDY building at 2 Psyllas Street in Syntagma, in solidarity with comrade G. Michaelides who is on hunger strike since 23/5. The occupation will continue until the publication of the council's decision.
We warn the judicial authorities and make it clear that the delay of the decision or the possibility of a negative decision by the Lamia council is tantamount to state murder of the anarchist comrade Yannis Michaelides. We therefore emphatically emphasise the weight of responsibility that weighs on this decision and the timing of the decision.
On Monday 25 July, after 64 days of hunger strike, the court of appeal in Lamia held a hearing for his release. Although there was a commitment on the part of the council to issue the decision in time, we understand that the timeframe for respecting the hunger striker has passed. Indeed, they have been elapsed since the Amfissa council delayed a month in issuing its decision. Any further delay on the part of the Lamia council constitutes further torture and an attempt to eliminate our comrade.
As for his health, his companion Yannis Michaelides estimates that until Thursday he will not be able to drink any water, as his body is so badly damaged that he suffers constant palpitations, which make swallowing water impossible.
He has now lost 20.6 kg, which is more than 28 % of his original body weight. In general he states that he has no strength, moves very little and has a lot of pain in his spleen, left kidney and chest. He is also forced to sleep sitting up due to constant stomach upset. His blood sugar has dropped to 71 and his blood pressure is 8 and 6. He is very dizzy and cannot concentrate.
The rejection of the decisions and proposals so far, and the fact that the council was appointed on a date when the comrade was on a 64-day hunger strike, shows blatantly that the state and bourgeois justice have two weights and measures. They exterminate, torture and force to death an anarchist militant, while releasing scum murderers and rapists such as Korkoneas, Filippidis, Horterias, Leventis and Lignadis. Justice is class-based, and it is our responsibility to bring justice to the streets by joining forces and fighting actively to end the extermination of Yannis Michaelides. To rally and fight with all our strength for the release of our comrade. To support and accompany the solidarity calls of the coming days:
We call on the movement to stand up against the arbitrary actions of the state and the state's revenge against the hunger striker, to unite its voice and to accompany the solidarity actions.
IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF ANARCHIST YANNIS MICHAELIDES
Against the exemption regime for political prisoners
THE STRUGGLE FOR THE FREEDOM OF ONE IS A STRUGGLE FOR THE FREEDOM OF ALL».
Iliopoulos: fair request by Michaelides
«The request of G. Michaelides» request is fair. His life is at a breaking point. Greece of 2022 should not and cannot be a country where a prisoner will lose his life after a hunger strike. The rights of prisoners are universal and non-negotiable. The exception regime and the vindictive operation of the institutions negate the rule of law and insult our democracy," wrote the head of the press office of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Nassos Iliopoulos.
Kritharides: Their «justice» is proving to be more and more classist every day
In the statement of press spokesman of MP25 Michael Kritharidis, the following is mentioned:
«The decision of the Lamia Board of Appeal to reject the just request of Yannis Michaelides for his temporary dismissal is unacceptable and shameful. Their ’justice“ is proving to be more and more classist every day: they release child rapists while they are vindictively exterminating young children, just because they belong to the anarchist or anti-authoritarian world. Their ”justice“ is proving to be more and more toxic and classist every day: it implements the substance of government decisions without even caring about the very laws that these governments passed. Their ”justice“ ultimately does not exist, it is like snakes, it only bites the barefoot, those who really need justice to protect themselves from the power of the powerful. The rule of law, prisoners” rights, human rights are suspended by Mitsotakis S.A. With a justice system on the scale of power and with class and terrorist laws (terror laws, etc.) there will always be two measures and two weights: Lignadis, Korkoneas, the murderers of Zack, Sabani, Maggos on the one hand, G. Michaelides, P. Kalaitzis, Stathopoulos, Erianna, Theofilou on the one hand».
