The Municipal Port Fund of Kythera held the the supply and installation of 10 modern pylons for the supply of electricity and water to boats (pillars) and installed them in the main port facilities of the island in order to achieve maximum coverage.
The implementation of this action contributes significantly to solving the problems of supplying water and electricity to passing vessels during periods of high occupancy in the ports of Kythera. With this action:
- The boats have access to electricity and water for their boats 24 hours a day as they operate with prepaid cards
- The Public Transport Authority of Kythera significantly improves its services and increases its revenues
- The wider local economy is strengthened, as the improved services of the Kythera Port Authority in combination with the other special characteristics of Kythera lead to increased and repeated boat traffic creating more tourist traffic and local businesses.
The DLT Kythera also carried out the supply and installation of the necessary equipment to modernise and make fully operational the passenger waiting area at Diakofti Port, which is the only port of Kythera that serves passenger shipping.
The action includes:
- Modern metal seats
- Air conditioning system
- Televisions
- Free WiFi
These actions were implemented in the framework of the Act «Upgrading of Port Infrastructure of the Municipal Port Fund of Kythera», which was funded by the Operational Programme «Fisheries and Maritime Affairs 2014-2020» in the context of the Local Programme CLLD/LEADER «Culture & Environment “On the Road”» with a total budget of 82.200€.
Subproject 3 will be implemented in the near future «Upgrading of Digital Infrastructure of Kythera Public Library», which will help improve the services provided by the PPA and make them easier to monitor.
The Municipal Port Fund of Kythera, with the support of the staff and the Technical Advisor of the Municipality of Kythera, continues in a systematic way the effort to utilize every funding opportunity for the implementation of projects that improve the infrastructure and services for the benefit of Kythera and the thousands of visitors to our island!
