Projects, before we say water, water
With the phenomenon of water scarcity plaguing Kythera in recent years, the island's institutions realize that time is... water and announce projects to strengthen existing water-supply structures. In this direction, the Municipality has announced new water supply network, from Marathea to Karvounades, while proposals were submitted for the inclusion of a comprehensive package of water supply projects in the «ANTONIS TRITSIS" programme».
Goggles, nails, cold lights and... ball
In April, in selected parts of Kythera, the first glass recycling bins, further enhancing the island's external reputation as one of the excellence in the field.
At the same time, the recycling of ideas about the new lighting in Capsule, resulted in a «hospital-style» cold, high-intensity lighting, which caused a reaction within the community and saw the Mayor fiddling with the artist Orestes Charo, within, outside and on them.
The island also renewed its sporting background, with the approval of funding from the Ministry of Interior for new sports facilities in Frilingianika and Potamos, with a budget of 900.000€.
Pandemic calendar
On the coronavirus front, we had the the start of horizontal vaccination, through the establishment of lists for residents. At the same time, we had the completion of the vaccination of Antikythera residents with the 1st dose of vaccine. In addition, there was also the phenomenon of a massive influx of Tsiriygotes permanently residing in Athens and other areas of mainland Greece to take advantage of the fast and immediate vaccination coverage. Ο vaccination tourism was now a fact. As was the ongoing reaction of the clergy to the protective measures during the upcoming Easter period, with the the clergy of Kythera and Antikythera to issue a communication to this effect and Metropolitan Seraphim sending - together with Metropolitan Kosmas of Aetolia and Acarnania - letter to the Holy Synod.
And from April... summer
What if we were still in the heart of spring? As early as April, everyone was already tuned into the frequencies of summer. Thus, the managers of the newly established Association of Kythera Island Tourist Accommodation Owners CeriGo, Vanessa Raikou and Stathis Faros, gave online interview with Kythera.News, in which, among other things, they referred to the need for all relevant bodies to work together to further promote the island's tourist product.
At the same time, the new tourist logo of the Municipality of Kythera, while, later in the month, the Kytherian MP for Piraeus, Kostas Katsafados, announced the launch of second service per week for the line Kythera - Gythio. The ominous news, however, would come from abroad, with Europa Nostra, to include Kythera in the list of 7 threatened Europe's monuments and heritage sites for 2021.
