Objective values, objective difficulties, negative records, positive impacts and tributes framed the news columns of Kythera for the month of May.
Kythera.News' big feature on film teams
In the last month of spring, Kythera.News started the big tribute to the film teams of Kythera High School, under George Didymiotis, a project that highlighted the pure talent of our young people, whose creations were awarded -among others- at the famous Olympia festival for young people and children, for three consecutive years.
So we gave the floor to the protagonists, who willingly responded in the order of appearance:
- Ο Dimitris Leventis, the tireless worker of education, who, more than anyone else, believed in the project and was always there to inspire, guide and advise.
- Η Myrto Tracada, this super-talented collector of experiences and awards, who, thanks to Didymiotis, discovered the art of editing and, thanks to her surplus of imagination, practiced the art of decoupage to the fullest.
- Η Marina Trifilli, this travelling bird that, as it expands its horizons, specialises in using a wide-angle lens to record its experiences.
- Ο Thanasis Koutrafouris, who declares himself a lover of art, receptive to whatever the other participants deposit on the common object of desire that goes by the name of cinema.
- Η Konstantina-Rosa Koutrafouri, who, from a young age, fell down the rabbit hole of the Olympia festival and from there emerged as a committee member, screenwriter and filmmaker.
Two awards and one order
May saw the Capsule awarded with blue flag and cheesy products to win international awards. At the same time, the Municipality's flirtation with electromobility was bearing fruit with the ordering electric vehicles to strengthen its existing fleet.
«Words, Letters», anniversaries and Myrtidiotissa on her throne
May, visited Kythera, the Vice-Regional Governor of the Islands, Mrs. Vassiki Theodorakopoulou-Bogri and had the opportunity to discuss with the Mayor of the island, Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis, all the development projects funded by the Region. At the same time, Mrs. Bogri attended the signing of the contract for the project «Establishment of Kythera Municipal Slaughterhouses».
During the month, the programme of the anniversary events for the 157 years since the union of the Ionian Islands with the national body. On the 16th of this month, the the custom of the procession of the sacred icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, with its return to the Holy Pilgrimage of Myrtidia.
Pandemic calendar
One good and two bad news, included the «pandemic calendar» for the island of Kythera in the month of May. The first one was about the completion of the first dose of the vaccine, while the second one saw the Tsirigoi community of Athens mourning for two of our compatriots, who lost the battle with coronavirus. They are Eleni Kasimatis Stathis and Eleni Kalligerou Doukidis, both from Drymonas, who left with a few hours difference, on the same day.
A kiosk and a... coffee shop
The 21st saw the installation on a stand within the airport, information kiosk for visitors about the «Kythera Trails», while Kythera.News launched its online corner «Tsirigotiko's Café» within the website, with the ability for readers to post comments and announcements at the click of a button.
