Alkis Konstantinidis was awarded for photographing the war

Honorable mention for Greek photojournalist Alkis Konstantinidis in the World Press Photo 2023 competition (@worldpressphoto), with his image standing out in the «Europe, Singles» category. Entitled «Yana and Victor» and taken in Kharkiv, Ukraine, the photograph captures the pain, death, and poverty of war through the story of Yana Bachek, the woman who was forced to mourn her 79-year-old father on April 18, 2022, who was killed on the street while out to buy a loaf of bread. Konstantinidis« lens captured his daughter, Yana Bachek, mourning over his lifeless body. Standing next to her is her partner, Yevgeny Vlasenko, while her mother Lyubov tries to comfort her.
