As the country burns from end to end, citizens see their homes and property destroyed, the ecological wealth of the country burns to ashes, the rulers constantly provoke with their statements.
More specifically, the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiades, speaking on a radio show, cynically said that fires in summer are a natural phenomenon, comparing them to rain in winter.
Commenting on the devastating fire in Penteli, he did not hesitate to say the best about the state mechanism, saying «the general picture of the state mechanism is extremely good».
While, he said he heard «rave reviews, not just good reviews» from people about the government's response to the fires.

«Summer without fires we did not live in the past either, there is no technical and physical possibility to live a summer without fires anymore. It's like saying winter without rain. As a product of time and climate change, this phenomenon is intensifying.
Forests have been burning and regenerating since their inception long before man appeared on earth. Fire is part of nature. In the present climatic conditions the natural phenomenon is intensified. The question is whether during the various fires the state can make its presence felt and deal with the phenomena in the best or worst possible way. It's early, I don't like to judge an event in the middle of it. We are still at the end of July. I would not want to get ahead of myself. I can only speak to the recent major event in Attica. No mayor was short of anything, they were all organized. The general picture of the state apparatus was extremely good.
