New updated emergency weather report issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), warning of prolonged heatwave which is already affecting the country and is expected to last until Sunday 27 July 2025.
Temperatures will move in particularly high levels, with the worst days to be found from Tuesday to Thursday, so they are expected maximum values up to 45 degrees Celsius, mainly in the interior of the mainland, with a focus on Thessaly, Central Macedonia and Eastern Sterea.
The key points of the heatwave:
- Monday 21/07: Temperatures up to 41°C on the mainland, 38°C in Athens-Thessaloniki.
- Tuesday-Wednesday (22-23/07): Temperatures up to 43°C in Thessaly, 42°C in Eastern Sterea & Peloponnese.

- Coastal areas: 2-4 degrees lower values.
- Minimum temperatures: They will not drop below 27-29°C in urban centres, making it difficult to sleep and rest.
Η EMU stresses that the bulletin will updated daily, as the weather conditions are dynamic, and recommends frequent updates from the oldportal.emy.gr and the European warnings of the Meteorological alert.
Recall:
People are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys during hot weather, stay in cool places, drink water frequently and look after vulnerable groups such as the elderly and infants.
The specific heatwave is one of the most prolonged in recent years, with the 40s being sustained for 6+ consecutive days, testing the strength of the citizens and the infrastructure.
