The Bloomberg proceeded to a ranking of countries, with the South Korea to occupy the highest position in 2021 instead of Germany which held the lead in 2020.
The East Asian country was also at the top of the list from 2014 to 2019.
The USA finished in 11th place, dropping three places in two years and for the first time out of the top ten.
The ranking is made after considering factors such as research and development expenditure, the number of patent applications and the number of domestic public high-tech companies.
South Korea scored 90.49 out of 100.
H Netherlands and the Denmark were the countries that made the most progress among the top 10, moving up four and two places respectively.
It is noted that Greece is in 30th place (of the list of 60 countries) with a score of 68.47 out of 100.
