Recipient of many messages of indignation from parents in Chania for the way they manage pediatric surgery cases at the General Hospital of Chania, has become in recent days in zarpanews.gr.
According to the testimony of a relative, yesterday Friday, «A 6-year-old boy with symptoms of gastroenteritis and fever went to the hospital of Chania and after tests the doctors saw that it was appendicitis. There was no paediatric surgeon and he was rushed to Heraklion by ambulance.» with the complainant noting that «the lack of medical staff endangered the life of a child.»
In another testimony, a mother reports that a 12, 5-year-old child who needed hospitalization was taken care of by a general surgeon.
While even more shocking is the testimony of another mother, according to whom the child was misdiagnosed twice before finally being examined by a qualified doctor and urgently admitted for surgery.
As it turns out, it has become a standard practice that even the most common cases such as appendicitis are sent to Heraklion by ambulance with all that this implies.
In the year 2025, the Prefectural General Hospital of Chania, which is on call 7 days a week and 365 days a year, is unable to operate a pediatric surgery department and the surgical clinic is on the verge of collapse, forming a condition that reasonably concerns citizens.
