Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias presented his vision for the development of tourism in Attica—through the rebranding of the region as the «Greater Athens Region»—in an article he wrote for the newspaper «TA NEA Savvatokyriako.».
Mr. Hardalias clarified that he aims for an Attica that is «dynamic and actively involved» in the national effort to develop tourism, leveraging the recognition of Athens—the «global star of Greek tourism»—as a key strategic advantage. As he emphasized, this approach promotes a coordinated communications campaign «that reintroduces our region,» and he added: «Instead of talking about Attica and meaning Athens, from now on we will talk about Athens and mean the whole of Attica.».
Mr. Hardalias emphasized that the goal of this policy is to effectively showcase the natural and cultural wealth of the entire Attica region, as well as the attractions of every part of it, always in connection with culture, gastronomy, wine appreciation, sports, and entertainment. «The Region is responsible for the tourism development of Attica. Because no one knows Attica as well as we do,» he noted.
To this end, the reorganization of the Region’s internal services has already begun, with the aim of creating a solid foundation for the development of tourism in Attica: «The challenge for us now is multifaceted: outreach, rebranding, a strategic framework, and infrastructure. Tourism is one of the major challenges—and my personal commitment—that we will overcome. For Greece and for each of our fellow citizens,» concluded Nikos Hardalias.
