In favor of Kythira!

«With the elders, with the Old People's Home, with the Kytherians of the Earth».

This is our answer to those who ask «who are you with» in the well-known confrontation between the Board of the Trifyllion Foundation and the Municipality of Alimos. A confrontation which seems to be resolved at some point in the courts, but which is already producing toxicity, creating problems and raising serious questions before us.

We want to be well informed before taking a position on a serious issue. Fortunately, our chosen compatriot Yannis Kasimatis has made an informative «post» regarding the financial situation of the Kythera Nursing Home. He describes in dark colours the liquidity of the Trifyllion Foundation (which operates and maintains the Nursing Home). A worrying point is the reference to the financial deficit of €240,000 in the last balance sheet (2022).

But liquidity is one thing, real estate is another. Here there were clear accusations of mismanagement by the Mayor of Alimos: As he claimed, speaking at a recent meeting of his city council, Trifyllion has a large real estate portfolio, with at least 82 properties in Greece and one building in Australia. Therefore, (argues the mayor of Alimos), there is no proper utilization of all the real estate of Trifyllio...

The truth is that we know the people who are currently leading Trifyllion, we know their ethics, we know their abilities and we believe that they are trying to do their best in terms of managing its assets. But we expect a detailed response to the Mayor of Alimos' criticisms. We all want to know:

-How much of the properties currently generate income for the Foundation?;

-What are the detailed revenues?;

-If the development of the Alimos block does not succeed, is there a risk to the financial support of the Nursing Home?;

-Is there a plan B?;

Kythirians believe that, if necessary, we will all support in every way the continuation of the uninterrupted operation of the Nursing Home. It is something that is non-negotiable.

We should not ignore the fact that (among other things) the operation of the Nursing Home provides jobs and stimulates the island's economy. All the more so since there is no “help at home” for the helpless (the responsibility of the central administration and local government).

At the same time, however, the Board of Directors of Trifyllion must give all appropriate answers to any malicious theory. We Kythirians in particular must know in every detail the finances of Trifyllion so that we can in turn support its actions. Transparency is a requirement of the times.

PS. It would be good in the foreseeable future to make an effort to allow residents who live permanently in Kythera, but also Kythirians of known prestige to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Trifyleion Foundation without exclusion...
