In Alonissos, a Christmas tree decoration under the water took place on the initiative of the Municipality of Alonissos. Prior to this, the Municipality invited the residents of the island to attend the original festive event on Saturday 10 December, bringing their decorations. The symbolic underwater decoration was undertaken by the Mayor of Alonissos Petros Vafinis, the President of the Tourism Committee Maria Agallou, the instructors Dias Menis and Ilianna Gialama and the divers Vassilis Papaioannou and Tasos Outsas, with the voluntary support of Alonissos Triton Dive Center and Dimitra Minas.
The video of the decorations accompanies the City's special Christmas greetings for this year with the motto, «Merry Christmas and 2023 SEAson's Greetings!» It is noted that Alonissos recently won the Best Diving Destination award after a vote by British tour operators, as part of the first Greek Travel Awards successfully organised by the EOT UK Office. It is also worth mentioning that the first underwater wedding organized by the Municipality of Alonissos at the end of the summer, has so far led to the creation of interest and bookings for new weddings by couples who want to get married underwater in Alonissos next summer!
