«Covid is not just a simple flu» reiterated once again the director of the 2nd ICU of the ’Papanikolaou« hospital in Thessaloniki Nikos Kapravelos, stressing that the coronavirus has the potential to affect almost all organs and that long covid has entered our lives, with patients suffering from symptoms even more than six months after the infection.
«We are entering a week that in the past two years played a decisive role in the great spread of the coronavirus in Northern Greece, with religious holidays - St. Demetrios - national holidays, crowds. It really haunts us because it was followed by a huge wave of coronavirus with thousands of deaths,» he said, speaking to OPEN TV. He noted that although the coronavirus has changed its characteristics with Omicron 5 not causing acute disease, nevertheless the pandemic is not over and hospital admissions and deaths of the elderly continue.
Finally, Nikos Kapravelos stressed the need for the State to reconsider the extreme measure - as he described it - of suspending the work of unvaccinated health workers. «It lacks scientific basis, it is a matter of egoism,» he noted. «And the quadruple vaccinated person gets infected and transmits,» he added, noting that with the suspensions of unvaccinated health workers, hospitals are deprived of valuable services.
