ΗHellenic Bankers Association informs traders of the following in a statement prolongation of the application of the increase in the threshold for contactless transactions with payment cards without the use of PINs in of EUR 50 until 31 March 2021.
In particular, the announcement states that «following the 22 September 2020 Announcement of the EETT, its member banks, by actively implementing the a commitment to their continued assistance in limiting the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on public health and transaction practice, will maintain until Wednesday, 31 March 2021 the limit for contactless card transactions without the use of PINs at €50.
Since 30 March 2020, when the measure was adopted, the response from the trading public has been almost universal, significantly minimising the physical contact of cardholders with the terminal keyboard (POS). All transactions, regardless of the amount, can be carried out intact without handing over the payment card to the employee of the store where the transaction is carried out. For transactions in excess of EUR 50, the cardholder will continue to be asked to enter his PIN at the POS».
«In any case, we remind you of the special attention that traders should pay to the safe keeping of their cards,» the statement concludes.
