Fresh are still the memories of the big fire which broke out on Tuesday, 06/09, in the area of Agia Pelagia and quickly took dimensions in the direction of the settlement of Saint Anastasia.
The fire is contained, finally, on Wednesday, 07/09, thanks to the timely intervention of airborne means, with the assistance of the entire Kythera Fire Brigade, hiking teams from the area of Tripoli and Laconia and volunteers. Present throughout the operations and the Civil Protection of Kythera, through the competent deputy mayor, Yannis Katsanevakis.

The wounds of the Kytheraic land from the destruction brought by the fire in the area of Agia Pelagia - Agia Anastasia. According to the fire brigade, a total of 600 acres of land were incinerated, 400 of them forest land and 200 of them crops.
Today the reinforcements from the opposite coast, which for a week contributed to the fire-fighting and alert work, are leaving the island.
