These are the films that will be in cinemas from Thursday 28 July.

Eiffel

September 1886. A year before, the Washington Monument was declared the tallest building in the world and the French government pressed the famous engineer Gustavo Eiffel to create something more spectacular for the 1889 World's Fair, which would be hosted in Paris. He has just completed his contribution to the construction of the Statue of Liberty and prefers to concentrate on designing the city's metro. But everything will change when he meets again Adrienne, a mysterious woman from his past. Passion will flare up again, inspiring Eiffel to undertake a daring project. A passion that threatens to destroy both their lives, as well as the very construction of the Tower itself.

Although the film is not a biopic, the team decided to stay as true to the historical context as possible. What do we know from the documents of that period? Gustavus Eiffel did indeed enter into a passionate relationship with Adrienne Bourget while building the Bridge of Saint-Jean in Bordeaux. He is 28 years old and she is 18. Their marriage is announced, but then annulled by Adrienne's parents. At first, Gustavus refuses to take on the Metal Tower project - despite the insistence of his engineers, he shows no interest. But, seemingly without reason, he seems to suddenly change his mind and takes on the crazy goal of building a 300-meter-high tower in the middle of the city, even going so far as to mortgage his property to complete the project.

In the role of the legendary engineer, Romain Duris and with him the rising star of the Sex Education series, Emma Macki. Directed by Martin Bourboulon.

The Pension

To avoid prison, young Milan must complete 300 hours of community service in a retirement home. At first, the situation is pure hell, until the retired boarders decide to ’adopt« him.

«The film is dedicated to my grandfather who passed away suddenly in 2020. I've lost my other grandfather, but I have two grandmothers and I talk to them on the phone at least once a week. I love to hear them tell me stories from other times,» says Kev Adams (Milan), who also co-wrote the script.

Directed by Thomas Gilloux. Played by Kev Adams, Gerard Depardieu, Danielle Prevost, Milen Demonzo, Jean-Luc Bideau, Martha Villalonga, Firmin Richard, Liliane Rover.

In the Extreme

A Spanish underground railway driver in Brussels experiences a night of absolute horror. He sees a young man about to fall on the tracks in front of the train he is driving, and seeing his face he realizes that it is his son, with whom he had been lost for years... When the father learns that his son had been involved in a bloody robbery, he decides to take the law into his own hands, and follow the bloody trail of tracks left behind by his child, to get to the masterminds of the robbery, whom he holds responsible for his demise.

Played by Antonio de la Torre, Marine Vaqt, Olivier Gourmet.

Last Summer

Tensions escalate between troubled teenager Julia and her repressive father Ante when an old family friend visits them at their home on an island in Croatia. As Ante attempts to close a life-changing deal, Yulia tries to escape the peace and isolation by seeking the company of the powerful visitor, who offers her a taste of freedom over the course of a weekend.

Directed by Antonetta Alamat Kusjanovic. Played by Gracica Filipovic, Danica Gurchic, Leon Lucev.

Amira

Amira, a 17-year-old Palestinian girl, came into the world thanks to the sperm that her imprisoned father, Nawar, had smuggled out of his incarceration cell. Although in all the years since her birth their relationship was limited to prison visiting hours, Nawar is still her hero. The love and affection of those around them more than compensate her - and more than make up for the absence of her father. But when Nawar's attempt to have another child fails and is revealed to be barren, Amira loses the ground beneath her feet.

Based on true events that took place in Israeli prisons for Palestinian political prisoners, Mohamed Diab's film caused a big reaction and was even fought over on IMDb.
