How the public transport will move.

Attica, Boeotia, the Dodecanese, Evia, Crete and the Cyclades are on holiday today as well. these areas have been declared a state of special mobilisation for civil protection due to the severe weather conditions that have occurred. 

In these areas the following apply:

  • The operation of all public services is suspended, with the exception of the services of the first and second degree local authorities, the Armed Forces, the Security Corps, public health structures, public transport and other services whose operation is necessary for the management of the phenomenon at the discretion of the head of the relevant organisational unit.
  • In these areas, no level of education or tele-education will operate, public and private, nor infant, nursery and childcare centres, creative activity centres for children, creative activity centres for children and people with disabilities and day-care centres.
  • The operation of private businesses is also suspended, with the exception of food shops, pharmacies and other health care facilities, petrol stations and other businesses operating on public holidays, as well as businesses whose operation contributes to dealing with the consequences of the severe weather.
  • Supermarkets and food stores that will be open from 10:00 to 18:00. The petrol stations and pharmacies will operate according to their normal opening hours and the scheduling of their on-call duties.
  • Bank branches will remain closed and will not execute transactions for the public in the regions of Attica, Crete and South Aegean and in the regional units of Boeotia and Evia.
  • The operation of farmers' markets within the Region of Attica is completely suspended.
  • Appointments at the vaccination centers in the prefectures of Attica and Evia are suspended today.

The evacuation of the drivers and vehicles that were inside Attiki Odos was completed

Approximately 4,500 passengers and 2,500 vehicles are estimated to have been trapped on the Attiki Odos road on Monday night, according to Civil Protection data. During the operations in the first night until the early hours of yesterday morning, about 3,500 people and about 1,800 cars were extricated, while until yesterday afternoon about 500 vehicles remained stranded.

According to an announcement by Attiki Odos, those drivers whose vehicles have remained in the following sections of Attiki Odos, can, after consultation with the Fire Brigade at 199, come to pick up their vehicles from the following points:

  1. From Kifissia Avenue to the Vrilissia tunnel in the direction of the Airport. They can exit at the Ymittos Regional Road and from there to Katehaki Street towards the Military Hospitals.

  2. On the route from Katehaki Avenue via the Ymittos Regional Road in the direction to the Airport and in the direction to Rafina-Pikermi at exit Y8.

  3. From the Pallini toll road to Katehaki Avenue (and towards the Military Hospitals).

  4. From the Peania toll road to Kantza in the direction of Elefsina.

Furthermore, Civil Protection vehicles are available, since yesterday and for as many days as needed, to drivers at Dachtyliidi on Kifissia Avenue for their transportation and the recovery of their vehicles from Attiki Odos. These are vehicles, mini-buses, which will be on the spot and on continuous routes from 9 in the morning until 7 in the afternoon to transport drivers to recover their vehicles.

How public transport will move today

Buses and trolleybuses will be on holiday today.

Services will start between 06.30 - 07.00, due to the increased risk of frost in the early morning hours. In order to ensure the safety of passengers and workers, the supervisory crews will constantly monitor road conditions and timetables will be adjusted accordingly.

Fixed wheel vehicles

As far as the operation of the fixed-track means of transport is concerned, lines 2 and 3 of the metro will operate normally tomorrow. In the section «Duk. Plakentias» - Airport «El. Venizelos», there will be no intermediate stops.

On line 1, the service will be operated on the section Piraeus - Irini and vice versa with the prospect of the rest of the line being in operation by noon.

On the tram network, services will be operated as follows:

-Frame 6 “Syntagma - Pikrodafni” with a terminal stop at Vouliagmenis Avenue

- Route 7 “Asclepieion of Voula - Poseidon Beach” with terminal stop Swimming Pool

By noon, traffic on the tram network is expected to be fully restored.

During the day there will be a constant flow of information on the operation of public transport services for the information of the travelling public from the Agency's website www.oasa.gr .

TRAINOSE

Due to the weather conditions, and provided that the infrastructure of the OSE network is tested and safely operated, today, on a holiday day, the TRAINOSE holiday schedule is expected to be executed normally: that is, as every Sunday, the 1532, 1537, 1552, 1557 of Chalkida and the 4+4 pairs on the Koropi-Liosia line will not be operated.

The additional changes to the timetable for the public on 26 January consist of cancellations:

  • the morning IC-50 and IC-51 on the Athens-Thessaloniki line

  • morning services on the Chalkida line 11530, 1530, 1533.
