Turkey: The Greek policeman and his companion return

They were fined £50,000.

Fine 50,000 Turkish pounds was imposed on police and his partner who were arrested in Turkey. Their adventure had a happy ending as no incriminating evidence was found on their mobile phones and as a result the two were released. As reported by the correspondent of Open and of ethnos.gr in Turkey, Maria Zacharaki, the two children will return to Greece on Friday afternoon (around 12-1).

Earlier, they are expected to pay the aforementioned fine. According to Turkey, because they have entered a military restricted zone, they have committed an offence and will therefore have to pay a fine and court costs.

No incriminating evidence found

The mobile phones and electronic material of the couple, which were seized, were examined by the Department of Cybercrime of the Provincial Security Directorate, but no evidence of committing any crime was found.
At the request of the lawyer Celine Ozer for the lifting of the curfew of the Greek police officer Manolis Valasoudis and his girlfriend Athena Tsyaga, the Magistrates' Court of Adrianople lifted the ban on leaving Turkey, but fined the couple £50,000.

What they said in their statements

According to their statements, they used a GPS to follow the route to Kipi and it took them to a village in Turkey, Doirani. As Maria Zacharaki told OPEN, she herself has had to take the route to the Gardens and the GPS took her to that village and even to restricted zone.

The Turkish police officers saw them entering the restricted zone in a car with Greek plates and stopped them for control. The Turkish police claim that the policeman and his girlfriend were also taking pictures, which is prohibited in the restricted zone. When they saw the man's police ID card, they arrested them. But the man did not have his passport with him.

It is noted that if a uniformed person is off duty and has visited Turkey for tourist purposes, he does not need to carry a special permit but only his passport. However, he cannot do so with his police identity card.
