Meeting with the highest bidder of the tender for the Skaramanga Shipyards, George Prokopiou, had on Thursday, 15/07, at the Maximou Mansion, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to reports, the Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the development of the tender and stressed that «the government attaches particular importance to the revival of the shipbuilding industry in Greece, after a long period of decline in the industry». He pointed out, among other things, the special role of shipyards for the Armed Forces.
Prokopiou said that the government and the Prime Minister inspire confidence and expressed his own confidence in the country's prospects. «The Greek economy and the Greek mentality are beginning to take off,» he said, and then went on to elaborate on his plans for the shipyards, which involve both the construction of high value-added ships and the repair of vessels.
He also noted that Greece has high quality human resources and that the development of the shipyard will enable the employment of highly skilled young people, many of whom are currently abroad.
«Greece, which is the world's leading naval power, must also become the leader in innovation in the shipbuilding and repair sector,» the Prime Minister stressed.
During the meeting, there was also a specific discussion on the employment of shipyard workers.
Present at the meeting, from the government side, were the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiades, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Theo Livanios, the Secretary General of the Prime Minister, Grigoris Dimitriades and the Head of the Prime Minister's Economic Office, Alexis Patelis.
