Today, May 7, the Deputy Minister of Environment George Amyras and the Secretary General of Environment & Water, Mr. Konstantinos Aravosis, had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. MP of Laconia of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance St.Arachovitis, on the subject of forest maps.
The issues raised by Mr. Arachovitis to the Deputy Minister were:
- The issue of the special property status of Mani.
- The issue of forested fields (FFA) and the issue of cleared fields before and after 1975 (PA), which is the most intractable for the Mani region.
- The issue of the staff that is deemed necessary to staff the forestry services in order to “run” the process for the benefit of citizens.
- The obligation of the State to allow the submission of objections by citizens if it is a new posting.
Forest maps are a capital reform for our country that started in 2017. We are the last country in Europe without ratified forest maps, although this is an obligation arising from the 1975 Constitution. The process must be done for the benefit of both the environment and the citizens who live and farm on these lands.
