Dim. Stai Square: Images that do not honor our island

On a weekday, in Dimitrios Stai square of Kythera town, yesterday Tuesday 23 March 2021, we visited the public toilets located on the south side, just below the main entrance of Piraeus Bank. We were completely disappointed by the images we saw. The premises were full of dirt from long ago. Sanitary conditions dangerously inadequate. Garbage, tree leaves, used papers, a hose sticking out like a tasteless garland at the neck of the faucet in the sink. Sanitary items such as detergent, soap or paper were nowhere to be seen. A place so abandoned that does not befit the dignity of our people. And unfortunately the phenomenon is not a recent one.

These images tend to become entrenched, whether the citizen is in the country or in the the port of Diakofti (we had also reported there), or in the latrines of the port of Kapsali and so on...

We informed the municipal authority today, believing that they will act immediately. We hope that they will not only listen to us and take the necessary measures, but will stand up to the citizens and visitors of our island by taking care of the public spaces. We have one comment to make: «Cleanliness is half of nobility», our people say. And Chirigoi nobility is not honoured with such images in the public space of the island.
