An initiative for the effective management of buildings at risk of collapse has been launched by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni, and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Nikos Tagaras, as announced by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Specifically, under a legislative measure expected to be introduced shortly by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, a Special Committee on Buildings at High Risk of Collapse (E.E.P.E.T.) with the sole purpose of conducting on-site inspections and making decisions regarding the demolition of any structures deemed to be dangerously dilapidated.
According to the ministry, the main objective of the Special Committee to be established is to eliminate the existing convoluted bureaucratic procedures, such as time-consuming meetings of multiple committees on the same issue, as well as conflicting opinions that have, to date, delayed decisions on the demolition of buildings that pose a threat to public safety and the protection of the environment and the cultural heritage.
In a joint statement, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni, and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Nikos Tagaras, emphasized:
«Following systematic cooperation on the major issue of buildings in our country that are in danger of collapsing, we have jointly decided to put an immediate end to the particularly time-consuming, bureaucratic procedures. Given that buildings at risk of collapse are an issue of both public safety and the protection of our historical and cultural heritage, we are drastically reducing the time required and establishing a single Special Committee, known as the Special Committee on Buildings in Danger of Collapse, which will henceforth conduct on-site inspections very quickly and make decisions regarding the demolition of the buildings in question.».

First and foremost, they must be classified as such (dangerous and on the verge of collapse) …as directed by the Municipality…!!
