An unprecedented act of disrespect was committed by unknown persons in the area of Kanali in Magnesia, a few 24 hours before the National Anniversary of 28 October.
The perpetrators took down and tore down the Greek flag that was flying in the courtyard of a kindergarten in the area.
According to reports, the provocation happened last weekend when the kindergarten was closed. On Monday morning (24/10), when teachers went to the kindergarten, they were confronted with the vandalism. The Greek flag was missing from the mast and in its place were five car tyres, one on top of the other.
Looking more closely in the courtyard, they found pieces of the Greek flag. As suspected, perpetrators entered the schoolyard, took down, tore up the flag and threw it down before proceeding to the unconscionable act of putting the tires in its place.
Teachers immediately reported the incident to the Municipality of Rigas Feraio and to the Police, while at noon the Director of Primary Education Magnesia, George Polyzos.
However, the school and the Municipality immediately took action to order a new flag in order to put it back in place at the school, which is preparing for the 28th of October celebration next Friday.
«This is an unacceptable action and on the eve of the National Day, a day that is so important for all of us», Mr Polyzos commented.
