«Municipalities across the country are shutting down today due to the 24-hour nationwide strike called by POE-OTA (Panhellenic Federation of Local Government Employees), in response to the fatal injury of a sanitation worker employed by the Municipality of Xylokastro-Evrostina.
At the same time, a protest rally will be held outside the Ministry of Labor at 10 a.m., followed by a march to the Ministry of the Interior (the building on Vas. Sofias Street), where a meeting with Minister Makis Voridis will be requested.
The main demand of the protest is the strict enforcement of occupational health and safety laws.
A meeting of the Federation's General Council is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the sector's next course of action.
