georgia-tseri

Lately Georgia Tseri has been creating works influenced by Japanese culture.  She has attended seminars on butoh, martial arts, but especially Japanese calligraphy.

She creates her works on canvas, on silk, but also on various types of handmade Japanese paper intact or treated by her with wax or various mixed techniques and using Japanese brushes with inks and acrylics. On her works we observe small-scale prints reminiscent of Japanese stamps.

The titles of the works, in this exhibition, are borrowed from poems by the great haiku poet Matsuo Baso, thus creating a unity.

Starting from ensō circles and based on the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi, her works highlight her love for the material, purity, imperfection, awareness of the constant flow of life, melancholy and joy, all in balance. According to Eastern philosophy, wabi-sabi is the essence of things and Zen art is an external expression of the inner self.

Opening: Tuesday 12 July at 21:00
