Twelve ambulances small volume, suitable to operate in the small islands of South Aegean with road networks and settlements with particularities, strengthening the fleet of the EKAV, were handed over to the Mayors of the respective twelve islands, Cyclades and Dodecanese Islands.
The 12 small volume ambulances are available in Lipsi, Megisti, Amorgos, Kimolos, Kythnos, Folegandros, Antiparos, Donousa, Herakleia, Thirassia, Schinoussa, and Koufonissi. The supply of the ambulances was financed with European funds from the Regional Operational Programme «South Aegean 2014-2020» (NSRF).
The ambulances were handed over by the Deputy Minister of Health, Vassilis Kontozamanis, the Regional Governor of South Aegean George Hadjimarkos and the Governor of the 2nd Piraeus and Aegean Department Christos Roilos.
Kontozamanis stressed that the delivery of 12 modern ambulances for small islands of the Aegean «marks the Government's unshakeable decision not to leave any of our fellow citizens helpless, even if they live in the most remote part of our country». He added that in the context of upgrading health services, the Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy are working on and will soon present a plan to provide incentives for the strengthening and staffing of health structures in island, remote and arid areas of the country.
