Uprising in the ranks of the islanders for the continuing delay in the payment of compensation for the transport equivalent.
Specifically, a page was created where online signatures are collected in order to put pressure on the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, in order to speed up the procedures for the payment of the compensation amount for the tickets that fall under the category of transport equivalent.
The online signature collection is hosted on the “Islanders in favour of the Transport Equivalent”.
The text of the e-vote states:
«Our country relies on island tourism to a large extent, but the governments of the day show zero interest in their inhabitants. Just as the citizens honour their obligations to the State, so should the government. At last, if they are even a little interested in them, they should proceed immediately to pay ANHCO.»
It should be noted that the payments for the islanders“ transport tickets are on ”ice", with the result that the amounts corresponding to the months of October - December 2021 have not been paid.
Also, note that last April, the decision was issued for the payment of the Transport Equivalent for businesses in the first half of 2021.
The huge delays in the payment of the M.I. combined with the large increases in ferry tickets have created an unpleasant situation for islanders.
