With the votes of the opposition and the government MPs voting against, SYRIZA's proposal for the establishment of a committee of inquiry “to investigate the operation of political manipulation of public opinion, trivialization of institutions and waste of public money” was passed by the plenary session of the Parliament.
After a lengthy debate in the plenary session of the parliament, and based on the provision of the revised Constitution (68 paragraph 2) for the establishment of committees of inquiry with a majority “which cannot be less than two-fifths of all MPs”, the decision was taken with 142 positive votes of opposition MPs, while 157 negative votes of members of the Southwestern Party were recorded.
By the same decision of the Parliament, a two-month deadline was set for the completion of the work of the committee of inquiry and the submission of its findings.
